Interesting stuff, a lot to digest. But it connects a lot of rabbit hole stuff I've dived into to this point.
One thing that struck me early in the piece is the palace intrigue and church politics stuff -- how this all started.
It reminded me of a great movie from the '70s (and IMO the best version of) "The Three Musketeers."
It had plenty of palace intrigue and church politics at the heart of its plot - along with a lot of lively action, beautiful women (at least I thought so at the time), great scenery and Python-ish humor. It's probably worth a re-visit to use the same lenses to view, but through a 52-year filter.
