If we don't start making our Steel and other critical metals here in America again we will be in big trouble, so this IS a National Security Matter.
We cannot be importing steel from countries like China that in any type of controversy or conflict could cut us off.
Furthermore, imported steel is substandard to USA-made steel and faulty steel (with impurities such as high sulfur and copper content) endanger everything from our Military to our Infrastructure. US manufacturing standards are VERY STRICT regarding quality and consistency. Everything manufactured and built in America MUST meet exacting quality and specification standards.
Foreign steel DOES NOT meet these quality & consistency standards - PERIOD.
Our Military Armor, our Aviation Safety, our High-Rises and Bridges just as some examples DEPEND ON USA QUALITY STANDARDS FOR SAFETY AND RELIABILITY.

If I take a dozen Chinese bolts that are supposedly torque-strength rated,
then torque them to 100% max torque strength specification,

My dad is a metallurgical & mining engineer and an expert in high-quality steel making and we are a mining family. We know what is coming out of China and we know what America can produce, which is infinitely better.
