"Yesterday we heard reports that Keir Starmer is handing out more lifelong appointments to shape our laws in the House of Lords.

Did you know that only China’s legislature, the National People’s Congress, is larger than the Lords? That's right – with over 800 members, the House of Lords is the second-largest chamber in the world.

With these appointments, it’s only getting larger.
The only people who should decide who sits in our Parliament, making our laws, are the public who live under those laws.

These appointments cannot be allowed to continue – the chamber is already bursting at the seams.

It’s time we scrapped our unrepresentative House of Lords and replaced it with an elected second chamber.

Our lawmakers should look like us and be accountable to the people they serve not just the Prime Minister who appointed them.
