After the International Bankers set conditions for the Civil War, the bankers tried 2 force President Lincoln to accept war loan with 30% interest. Lincoln refused and claimed the authority to issue our own debt free government currency, the greenback. After the war Lincoln announced his intention to go on issuing greenbacks.

Following Lincoln’s assassination, the greenbacks were pulled from circulation. After this we never again had an “internal” national currency, despite the fact that the Constitution specifies for one (in Artcle I, section 8).
