Elderly cholesterol levels.
A study published in PubMed found that elevated cholesterol levels are common in the elderly, but after the age of 65, increased blood lipids become less pronounced as risk factors for coronary heart disease. In fact, high total cholesterol has been associated with longevity in very elderly individuals.

For adults 65 years and older, the recommended total cholesterol levels are:

Below 200 mg/dL (milligrams per deciliter) [4]
Below 240 mg/dL for those 80 years old and older, as higher levels may be beneficial [1]
