My Dad was newlywed in '41 and the Marines beckoned. 42 months later he returned to the States to muster out. Malaria haunted him the rest of his life and he died at 79, cancer.
Denny Ferraro was drafted, went to Nam to get addicted to heroin, came home and died at 20.
War fucked up their lives and they didn't deserve it.

My good friend in high school got drafted and went to Vietnam. The war shattered him.
He came back home to a quiet dull life, friends say.
I had moved away. Years passed .I thought of contacting him but haven't. I don't know what to say after all these years. He was an oddball back then. An art student like me, he loved opera!
I still have his phone #. Maybe I'll call, maybe not.
