NC Flood Survivors Contract Illness

Contaminated drinking water: Flooded private wells, damaged municipal water systems, & compromised septic systems have led to concerns about water quality. Residents are advised to get their water tested if they suspect their well may have flooded
Mold exposure: Flooded basements & homes are breeding grounds for mold, which can exacerbate respiratory issues and other health problems. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends wearing N-95 masks when doing cleanup projects.
Exposure to sewage & dust particles: Floodwaters can contain sewage, chemicals, & other hazardous materials, posing health risks to those who come into contact with them.
Increased risk of infectious diseases: With flu, COVID-19, & RSV seasons upon us, public health professionals are urging flood survivors to prioritize their health by getting fall VACCINATIONS despite the chaos of the storm’s aftermath
