He explains it quite well. Without an understanding of ourselves and message of Jesus Christ, we become susceptible to following the herd of sheep and zombies around us, worshipping objects, celebrities, etc, as if our emotional well-being depended on it.
If someone wants an understanding of their purpose on this earth, the Word of God will speak to them, imho. For myself, it's best described in the infamous words of MLK..."I have seen the promised land".
