Ironically, during a hurricane, fishermen do take their boats out to sea, it is deemed safer than being on land. The wind can pick up the boat on shore and fling it miles away inland, causing more damage. So it's not unusual for this to happen. I live in a fisherman village and this is how they protect the boats and themselves.
