Going organic and small producer and buying local and producing as much food as you can yourself is the right way to go to start turning your health around until this situation is fully brought under control. In the future, all GMO's and all chemical-poisoned food will surely be outlawed with severe criminal penalties, but we in America are just aren't there yet - so people be very careful what they consume, meanwhile.
