I find this hard to believe. Yellowstone is one of the largest known super volcanoes on the planet. The only thing under Yellowstone is lava. A giant burning pool of it.

If you want to take the time, dig through online archives of tech universities like Colorado School of Mines and you'll find research papers behind the secretive tunneling industry.
Bet today they can bore tunnels faster than you might typically drive to work + deeper than Mount Everest is tall.
If one wants to protect a Deep Underground Military Base (DUMB) with tunnels OF COURSE they're not going to try build it in a hot pool of molten magma, but they might build it AS CLOSE AS THEY CAN to deter an attack by an enemy who still wants to preserve this world intact.
