I have Scandanavian friends, and I lived in Denmark for 1.5 years. It has a different vibe, which I generally enjoyed, yet I was concerned about the general attitude toward God and spirituality. Almost defiant.

Ugh. I hate to hear that. I knew that not all ancestral people are the same, but I would have expected that my brethren from the north (I am German Lutheran and white) would not be involved all of this. Yes, I know there are always exceptions, but hearing that view towards it locally is not a good sign.
