How exactly would one confirm this without putting this agents life at more risk? He tried using anonymity as a line of defense to let us know what happened. They are going to try to kill him anyways the least he could do is give light on the situation.

Agreed . They can't deny they had him in their sights for a long period of time however.
Whoever the sniper team was needs to answer questions immediately.
