They look to see where the image is posted from (computer, IP, and any personal info) they track it.
TinEye.com will show how many others have a similar pic, if not them, then other reverse image lookup.
This can be good when accosting pedos, but can be intrusive to any individual, crime or not!
They track the products created and the memes, of whom makes or creates what, where it was posted from, and sent to!
And any law agency or computer security place has the tools to chek out your storage devices online or private. Which many places had these tools long before now too!
Most of the larger companies were probably using this tech or older tech for years!

My understanding is this is now extended beyond online. They will scan files on computer, mapped drives and on your phone or any device where you install their products.

Yes, software, devices, intrusion tools, etc. They have had all this for years! Did you see an article, not sure when it was dated, but a while back, and they mentioned that certain individuals could plant info on computers? I believe they said it was the police, but one would have to search back.
