Don't use salt if you are intending to plant in the area at any time in the future - only on areas that you do not want any vegetation in... also, make sure you keep the solution away from the plants you want to thrive.

Salt stays in the soil for a while - its the reason in ancient days, they would salt the crop fields to prevent an enemy from growing food, this would force the remaining population to move on,

In London, muslims did this to a community garden plot used to feed surrounding poor families.
