I want to disagree here. I was out in my garage when this was going on and I did my thing and looked at the event when I noticed it was getting dark out. I used my God given eyes and looked right at it. After 3 or 4 seconds the extreme brightness toned down and what I could see of the Sun was apparently strobing just like this clip.
