Unfortunately, I found out that Irish Spring does not deter mice. As you can see they even chewed it.

I thought it was going to work great.
I am still waiting to hear from the mower repair shop on the damage they caused my riding mower. In 4 days I have caught 4 mice in my shed and counting. I wish the “original” Irish Spring soap worked but those chewed bars proved it didn’t. 😣
Update: make that a total of 5 mice caught as of this morning.

At least with the traps I know where the dead mice are and can remove them quickly. If I use something lethal that allows them to crawl away and hide in my shed I can't find them until they begin to smell.
True, however there are some methods which the mice, rats, and so forth have to go find water and die at the water source instead of in the enclosure!
Poison Companies use: bromethalin
Which kills the rat when they leave to find the water source!
