It was part of jordan then. Palestine is the greek word for Philistine, they didnt become palestinians until the 50's and 60's when arafat needed a terrorist group and he chose those living in gaza. The word palestine was used as an insult to jews in the roman days cause it meant donkey's ass so they called the area where they had shoved the jews and called it palestine to be a slur to the jewish area of rome.
