I suggest that not knowing is ignorance and willingly choosing not to know is willful ignorance and is a grave sin.
St. Augustine, on willful ignorance of the faith, Hoc est peccatum quo tenentur cuncta peccata. "This is the sin which comprehends all other sins."
To know truth, is to know Our Creator.
