When I read that my first thought was a very deeply embedded white hat agent - one who rose to the level of getting the black eye...

But, if being taken over by a Vril causes the black eye, one assumes, noone could remain a white hat and have one of those creatures in their head... so, this seems the answer below is a more logical interpretation.
