Jesse was the father of King David and ancestor of Christ. In the 1st Book of Samuel, he is referred to as Jesse of Bethlehem (1 Samuel 16:1, 8; 17:12, 58). He was a sheep farmer; his son David cared for his flocks. (As shepherds kept watch in Bethlehem when Christ was born)
Isaiah wrote: “A shoot will spring forth from the stump of Jesse, and a branch will grow from his roots. The Spirit of the Lord will rest upon him: a Spirit of wisdom and understanding, a Spirit of counsel and power, a Spirit of knowledge and fear of the Lord . .
