I still laugh about it too.
When I still lived in the village, we had a dog and he was friends with Vietnamese pigs (small, black) - the dog was named Bonnie, and the pigs Ferda and Pašík.
They did not take a single step without each other and supported each other very much - they ate together, ran together and caught mores from each other. The pigs ran or at least squealed when called, and the the dog was mainly scratching the trees and ate raspberries and cherries from the low branches.
Anyone can be friends with anyone - as long as they are in the same frequency and vibration.
