He was probably a dazzling personality in his time, who had all sorts of followers, including wealthy people. They felt betrayed by him and he went into hiding. At least that's how it can be read on Wikipedia. But who knows the truth?
There's a cult or 'Religion' called "The Great White Brotherhood."
I was very close to someone who was completely into it.
I got involved for a short time.
