I keep saying that to family and their answer is: "So long as they keep taking taxes from my paycheck, they do!"
I just drop it. There would be no way to prove it.

They still have many people in fear. I started a part time job about 5 months ago and opted out of getting my taxes taken out. I just increased my dependants on my W-4. My husband still won't do that. 3 yrs ago I took out some money from my 401K. Owed them some taxes on it. I ignored them and got a letter that they sent it to collections. I've never in my life ever heard of them doing that. Haven't heard anything from either the IRS or Collections. Keeping my fingers crossed. I think you have to take it upon yourself to get out of their matrix.

You exactly correct my parent sold a home last year In calif and had to pay some 300k in taxes this year told them to wait and of course they did not wait.

A local friend owns a construction company and it's a big one here. She and her husband got tired of the IRS taking their year end knife blows and stopped filing 8 years ago. They never received ONE letter of intent to swarm them or have they ever been penalized for it.
People just won't wake up to it.
