I'm so glad you had a positive experience. The last dog I purchased was from a shelter. And, the experience was a nightmare which left me feeling very dubious about getting another animal from a shelter.

My advice is to read the contracts they give you before you sign them. This particular shelter had a clause that they could seize the animal at any time and the person who purchased the animal would have to pay for any court costs incurred. And I would have to 'check in with the shelter every two weeks'.

Hell no to both of those things.

The dog I purchased had been at the shelter for 2 and 1/2 years and when I said I would adopt him the shelter decided I wasn't the kind of person that should own a dog.

If course, I was relentless and countered all their BS and ended up buying the dog who I loved very much. But the bad taste about the experience is causing me to not want to get another animal from a shelter. Which is NOT a good thing.

Yes. he had a good life but passed and I recently moved into a house so I can get another pet. My inclination is to go to a shelter but I had such a bad experience in this town that I don't want to go through that struggle again. What to do? What to do?
