Recently re-watched the 2nd season of the Wire and 1st and 3rd seasons of True Detective. One of the plot lines of the Wire's 2nd season was the deaths of about 10 women sex slaves in a shipping container.
The 1st season of True Detective focused on the investigation of a satanic sacrificing cult, pointing the guilt at powerful political people. Season 3 hinted at a similar villain for much of the season.
This stuff has been out there for a while for those paying attention.
