DDT the cause of Polio amongst other illnesses. DDT was first synthesized in 1874 by the Austrian Chemist Othmar Zeidler. DDT's insecticidal action was discovered by the Swiss chemist Paul Hermann Müller in 1939.
The rise in DDT used in Pesticides In the early 40s and the increase in Polio for the next decades cannot be ignored, by 1972 the use of DDT was banned in the United States and by 1979 Polio was eradicated, the same goes for the UK but it all just happened a decade later and throughout most of the world.

DDT was labeled as an inert ingredient so was not required to be labeled. Was still being used in the US as late as 1975 as per purdue professors.
