The press seized on this photo as an own, but it has always been my favorite picture of President Trump, because, just this one time and only for a brief moment, you discern something of the enormous burden he undertook for us. No other picture like it exists, because he worked assiduously to spare us from the personal cost of his sacrifice. This is as close as we can ever get to understanding how enormous our debt to him is.

A copy hangs in my office as a reminder to be grateful for nobility and heroism. As I reflect on the picture tonight, I wonder if Ron DeSantis has ever stopped to look at it, and whether, if he should do so now, he might grasp the obscenity of repaying his vast personal obligation to Trump with the cold-hearted ingratitude of a primary challenge. We will know what kind of man DeSantis is by what he does next.
