Pressure wash with TSP then 3D tile over it or stain another color. Swap that front door for a 3/4 panel glass (horizontal panes). You will absolutely love it!

Low budget fix- a sign like this, a modern plantar with bright greens and bright flowers like impatients-in matching wood tones to the address plaque, placed below it.
That very dated cut glass insert can be covered with something like in the third pic OR just find a circular wodo and metal address plaque to cover that dated cut glass window.
Medium toned wood blends are warming and modern.
Painting the door charcoal would add more modern appeal.

You could presser wash it or paint it white w/ gold.
Use TSP when pressure washing as well.

looks like Texas. Theres something called German schmear you can do to the brick. The door looks dated but its probably expensive. Try and sell it and get a new one. Some people here are painting the brick white but i think thats too much on these homes, try a light grey if you do paint. Look on houzz app for remodeled exteriors. very pretty home!
Just replace the door! Maybe a paneled window door. Not etched glass or dark wood☀️

make what less scary? the plaque? or are you talking about the brick? leave the brick alone. paint the plaque. pick a white that works with your brick and then use black on the numbers, border, and letters.

When you paint brick, you will have to keep painting it. If you live in a climate with drastic temperature changes, that would be every 3-5 years if you are lucky.
I would let the weather wear the distressed paint off, (it takes many years though) or sand blast it off. Then add exterior lighting to highlight low.
What makes a house creepy looking often is the vegetation around it. Keep it simple and well pruned. Lighting will do wonders.
