I believe Jesus is the Word Incarnate — He is both God and man, and, as such He taught the tenets of our faith, and lived them, but, He follows the Father, not himself. I believe that Christians are followers of Christ.

Matthew 16:24
24 Then Jesus told his disciples, “If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.”

Jesus never asked his followers to be perfect.

Matthew 28:18-20
18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age.”
