isn't there a naval base on that island? My sister was stationed up in Washington on a ship way back in 2003/2004 and I've heard of that island from a few friends that are civilians associated to the military up in Washington state!
its a listening station that is joint Us Can ..listens to subs and surface level ships...radar coordinated with both our countries ships and planes... main concern last 10 years was juan de fuca strait....
