Look into the story and eyewitness accounts.

I learned that no one wanted to drink it and die. They were made to drink it at gunpoint and parents were told they would be shot right in front of their kids if they all didn't drink it.

He had them essentially captive inside a jungle encampment and had his henchmen pretending to be bad people on the outside and his followers were told people were on their way to kill them all and so it would be easier to drink the kool aide. Those that refused were held at gunpoint. Really messed up.

The bigger lesson to me is about idol worship. The people getting the jabs gave their power away to someone they thought knew better than them or even God about their own bodies.
