If the sun was 93M miles away and as large as they it is, then why is our universe in total darkness? The universe should be lit up like the demonstration with the flashlight. ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐
Because the sun gives off RAYS of light, right? The farther the sun is away from an object it will give a wider range of light coverage. We wouldn't even see the sun's rays if it was 93M miles away and our sun would be providing light for the whole galaxy and possibly the universe.
It doesn't matter how far away it is, as long as nothing obstructs the light between the Sun and us.
Also, yes, it is providing light for the whole galaxy. Look at the night sky. All the stars are exactly that, a "sun" somewhere providing light for us.
They are a lot further away than the sun, that's why they take up a much smaller area in the sky, and why the light that reaches us is much less than from the sun.
