I think Alan Parrot is a real person, a real (not a CIA) whistleblower.
The story of Alan growing up in Maine, a young boy with a fascination of birds and his later life of falconry in the Middle East is totally plausible. He seems genuine to me.
On the other hand we are watching a movie...
