We are (used to be) trained to also do research and have the option to NOT follow a Dr’s. order if it is against what OUR protocols, education and learned knowledge tell us. There is ALWAYS an option to refuse said orders. We are to be the advocate for the PATIENT. ‘I was just following orders’ does not abdicate our first priority and nurses could ALWAYS be sued. Sadly, those complicit in harming patients MUST be held to account.
