Sir Keir Starmer has been forced to pull his Chagos Islands bill in the wake of a US backlash over the deal.
The legislation was expected to be debated in the House of Lords on Monday, but was delayed on Friday night after the Conservatives warned it could violate a 60-year-old treaty with the US that enshrines British sovereignty over the archipelago.

US President Donald Trump said he will impose a 10% tariff on all goods sent to the United States from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands and Finland from 1 February.

He said that rate would increase to 25% from 1 June, and would stay in place until an agreement is reached on the United States acquiring Greenland.

“A 10 per cent tariff on all goods sent to the US would be imposed from Feb 1 … before being increased to 25 per cent on June 1.”

So we are defending Denmark’s colony, while Starmer is giving away our own colonies (because he feels guilty about them)! And in the process he is wrecking the UK’s entire defence, which utterly depends on the USA. The US even control our nuclear missiles and their satellite requirements! Starmer is very keen to hand over the reins of power to the EU, but which side does he think we would fight on then, or with whose help?
What does it matter to the UK whether the US holds Greenland or not? Sure, it creates a more powerful USA
