As of January 30, 2026, the federal government was operating under a continuing resolution that extended funding through that date.
This resolution, signed into law on November 12, 2025, ended the longest government shutdown in U.S. history, which had begun on October 1, 2025, and lasted 42 full days.
The continuing resolution maintained government funding at previous levels and included provisions such as re-hiring federal workers who were fired during the shutdown and prohibiting the federal government from spending funds to fire federal workers until January 30, 2026. Additionally, the Trump administration's "DOGE agenda," initiated by executive order on January 20, 2025, was set to conclude on July 4, 2026, as part of an 18-month plan aimed at improving government efficiency through technology modernization and cost-cutting measures.
By January 30, 2026, these initiatives would have been in progress for approximately one year.
