I do not know about that but the doctors have been fighting for a few years now (that I am aware of) a different battle. It concerns the increased role of NPs and other staff. The pros and cons of this shift are set in the context of private equity trying to get the best returns for shareholders.
I do not have anything against NPs and there are some very good ones. My concern is the reasoning as found here: they are twice as profitable...
